Maria Brosch (1928 – 2016)

The artist was born in 1928 in her hometown Wassenberg, she was married and had three sons.

Since early childhood, music and colours inspired her to be creative. Maria Brosch took her first painting lessons from the city’s well-known architect and painter Paul Wollenweber. She continued her artistic development in the field of painting in numerous seminars and courses, among others in the youth academy “Altenkirchen”. She also received further training in enameling from Gertrud Rittmann-Fischer, Prof. Akiko Miura / Japan and Prof. Orlando Sparaventi / Italy.

Due to her eagerness to experiment, she never commited herself to a particular art direction. Her artistic activities reflect the diversity of her creativity in working with natural products such as clay, copper, silver or soapstone and become carriers of individual thoughts and feelings.

With her excellent artworks she participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, among others in France, Italy, USA, Russia and the Netherlands.

She passed on her skills and abilities in the artistic design of ceramics, enamel works and batiks for many years as a lecturer at the Volkshochschule Heinsberg, but also in private courses in her studio in Wassenberg, as well as in the painting school “Cases Uriel”. She also was co-founder of the art and culture days in Wassenberg.

Her motto was: If you manage to develop a love for the beautiful things in life, it will make you much richer in your feelings.

Maria Brosch passed away on 4th of August 2016. With Maria Brosch we have lost a lovely person and a dedicated artist who was quite acknowledged due to her personal commitment in arts.
