Rita Gehlen-Marx

Born in 1940 in Solingen-Ohligs, the artist grew up in her hometown of Wassenberg. She is married and has two grown-up children.

For more than 30 years, Rita Gehlen-Marx has been engaged in the already ancient art of painting on silk, which she uses as a vehicle for the realization of ideas and as a medium of individual emotions. For the design of her paintings, which is the main focus of her creative activity, she uses various techniques, including self-invented, and is not afraid to create collages and objects with additional foreign materials.

She has acquired her knowledge, skills and abilities to carry out her artistic activities by attending specialized seminars – including those held by the widely known Smend Gallery in Cologne and by renowned lecturers and professors of silk painting. At the competition “Linienspiele” by the art association Seide e.V. she won the 1st prize in Rothenburg o.d.T. with her painting “Phantasy”.

As a freelance artist she works in her studio in Wassenberg and as a lecturer for painting on silk and other textiles she has already been teaching for many years at the Anton-Heinen-Volkshochschule Heinsberg and at the Catholic Forum for Adult and Family Education Mönchengladbach and Heinsberg.

In the course of her artistic activity, she has participated in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad, including France, Belgium, Austria, Russia, the USA and the Netherlands.

She is co-initiator of the art and culture day of the city of Wassenberg, member of the Creativ Kreis International e.V., artist member of the Kunstverein Seide e.V. as well as member of the Künstler-Forum Schloss Zweibrüggen e.V., Übach-Palenberg and in kunstlabor.de.
